Marty Kaan and his associates rule the land on which they step, but during the last episode of House of Lies, they get a swing at trying to rule the sees, as well. With Jeannie back at the firm and in his life, Marty seems unstoppable.
Episode five of the new season finds the business peeps running into the Dushkin twins once again. The crazy dudes who can't stop partying and saying dumb things are having parties on the boat now and if you're wondering what that has to do with Marty Kaan's plan to sell his company for tons of money and travel the world plus be a great dad, you'll soon find out. Of course, no one imagined that the biggest a-holes on the planet will become a point of interest, but when Clyde and Doug fail to come up with the expected idea for winning over the Palace CEO's business, Dushkin's appear like the best improvised solution.
Having been invited to the party, Clyde decides that he's going to go despite having had direct orders from Marty to come up with a business strategy. Instead, he stumbles upon the insight that the Dushkin's are so obsessed with their parties, which usually gather the richest of people, that they'd probably kill for a chance to have their own party boat. Marty dreads the idea initially, but realizing how much money is involved, he starts liking it.
The CEO agrees to let Marty try and make the twins abandon all their silly demands, in which case he might actually consider their party boat strategy. So, Marty sets on a mission to manipulate the Dushkins into thinking up this idea themselves. The crew ends up partying like there's no tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Doug is obsessed with fulfilling one of his fantasies: having sex with the captain of the ship. It doesn't matter that he's in a relationship, all that matters is that the boy gets his fun. That's what happens when the ego takes new proportions due to a potential TED talk that you might get to do at some point in the future, because your girlfriend arranged it.
Back to the Dushkins, they take the bait to go into a bigger business deal with Palace Cruise Lines, giving up on their A-list demands. Their new venture will be a floating party mayhem with no PG-rated entertainment. The Palace CEO put the team to the test and when the Dushkins surrendered, Kaan & Associates brought home another large client that will most likely make Galweather offer a bigger price to buy their company - an offer presented to Marty a couple of episodes ago. Funny enough, Marty realizes at the end of the episode that he has offered partnerships to both Doug and Clyde, prompted by Clyde's little tantrum on the basketball court.
By this point, Jeannie has really gotten accustomed to the idea of being a wealthy mom who can spend time with Phoebe without having to drunk video dial her, which she ends up doing after the Dushkin party. Marty professes to be excited about it, but you never know with these two.
“Marty, did we have sex?” asked the hungover Jeannie. Marty said, “No”, and Jeannie asked, “Did we drunk dial our baby?”
Yes, Jeannie did initiated a video call to the nanny during the late hours of the night after the aforementioned party. Both parents proclaimed their love for Phoebe and they even cried together. Then, they slept in the same bed like and old married couple, united by some deep love which doesn't need sex to be kept alive.
The morning after this chain of events doesn't even make them act weird. Marty puts his face on Jeannie’s shoulder as he kneels behind her on the bed, both of them marveling at how beautiful their child is.
As for Doug, he actually ended up locked in his own stateroom after security came and removed him from the captain’s private quarters where he ended up after many drinks and delusional scenarios about how Clyde might have already managed to sleep with the captain behind his back.
Can't wait to see how this whole getting-out-of-the-business things pans out. It would surely be more zen, which is not a word I associated with House of Lies.
