If you've been dreading the action thrillers you've seen on the big screen lately, this following project might give you something to look forward to. The first trailer - powered by Warner Bros. - for The Accountantstarring Ben Affleck (Gone Girl, The Town) has landed and I, for one, would like to see more.
Affleck plays a math genius who gets compared to Einstein and Mozart in the trailer by someone who appears to be an educator, or perhaps a therapist. Now, as an adult, Christian is both a small-town accountant and a freelance assassin without too many friends. Edited against Radiohead's "Everything In Its Right Place," the trailer gives us info of a kid who has been diagnosed early on with a developmental disorder, one that makes him prone to genius thought processes, but also alienation and isolation. His recurrent obsessive compulsive gesture is blowing air into his fingers before engaging in an action - we see him doing this both as a kid and as an adult.
“Can our son ever be normal?,” the father asks on the voice over of a child putting together a puzzle. “Define normal. Maybe he’s capable of much more than we know.”
The official synopsis reads:
Christian Wolff (Affleck) is a math savant with more affinity for numbers than people. Behind the cover of a small-town CPA office, he works as a freelance accountant for some of the world’s most dangerous criminal organizations. With the Treasury Department’s Crime Enforcement Division, run by Ray King (J.K. Simmons), starting to close in, Christian takes on a legitimate client: a state-of-the-art robotics company where an accounting clerk (Anna Kendrick) has discovered a discrepancy involving millions of dollars. But as Christian uncooks the books and gets closer to the truth, it is the body count that starts to rise.
Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect 1 & 2, Cake), J.K. Simmons (Whiplash), Jon Bernthal (The Wolf of Wall Street),Jeffrey Tambor (Transparent) and John Lithgow (Interstellar) also star. The film is directed by Gavin O’Connor (Warrior) from a screenplay by Bill Dubuque (The Judge).
The Accountant is set to hit theaters on October 14.
Check out the trailer.
