The chemistry between Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key is undeniable. They've been kicking ass with their show Key and Peele for five seasons and now Comedy Central has supported the making of kitten-gangster Keanu, a feature adventure.
Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line (via Comedy Central) have debuted the hilarious first trailer for Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele’s comedy feature Keanu. Co-starring Will Forte (Nebraska, The Last Man on Earth), Method Man (The Cobbler, The Sitter) and Gabrielle Union (Top Five, Think Like a Man Too), the new trailer can be watched below.
Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, a.k.a. Key & Peele, star as Clarence and Rell, two cousins who live in the city but are far from streetwise. When Rell’s beloved kitten, Keanu (presumably named after Keanu Reeves), is kidnapped by the gangsta played by Method Man, the ridiculous, non-bad-ass pair have to impersonate ruthless killers in order to infiltrate a street gang and retrieve the tiny feline. But the incredibly adorable kitten becomes so coveted that the fight over his custody creates a gang war, forcing our two unwitting heroes to take the law into their own hands.
Scripted by Alex Rubens (Rick and Morty, Key and Peele) and Peele, Keanu is directed by Peter Atencio, who has directed episodes of both Key & Peele and The Last Man on Earth.
“Apparently his sister showed him the trailer and said, 'Hey, you gotta see this. You’re gonna love this!' He flipped out and got in touch with us directly,” Atencio told the LA Times.
Although the movie was almost done, Atencio thought of a scene in which Peele’s character has a drug hallucination and the cat, named Keanu, guides him through his trip.
“We wanted to expand on that anyway, so we thought he could do the voiceover for the cat in that scene,” Atencio said.
So, Keanu actually recorded the voice while shooting this newest flick John Wick 2.
Warner Bros. will release Keanu on April 22.
Check out the spoof that came out before the actual trailer.
